Introduction to the email editor

Images uploaded to the email editor library can be edited to perfectly fit your email design, using the Shaman image editor for approved email. The image editor will automatically open when you upload a new image or PDF document and in this article, we will guide you through each tool available in the image editor.

Good to know!

If you are familiar with the Shaman CLM builder, you might have noticed this feature is currently only available for approved emails.

Before going any further, we strongly recommend you to read this article “Content menu: Images” which gives a solid introduction to how to add, update or delete images from your email content.

Crop and rotate your image

Let's imagine that you have created a new email fragment or template, have completed the email details, and are now in the HTML editor ready to add images to your email content. From the menus on the right-hand side, select the content menu. Find the image icon in the content menu, and simply drag and drop that icon onto your email canvas.

You will notice that a grey placeholder image has been added to the email canvas. To add your own image to the email canvas instead, click the “Update image” button from the menu on the left-hand side.

Select the "Crop" feature on the left-hand side in order to crop out parts of your image. You can select the crop box surrounding the image to "free crop" the image manually. Or alternatively, you can find a selection of default crop sizes after clicking the "Crop image" icon.

Above the image you also have the option to rotate the image 90º or flip it horizontally. Below the image, you can make finer adjustments by using the sliding scale to adjust rotation or zoom.

Adding a frame to your image

The image editor offers a selection of frames (including rounded border, or line border) that you can use to further enhance your images. Select the type, color, and size at the bottom of the page.

Resizing your image

Resize an image by entering a new pixel value in the box beneath your image. The width and height will remain in proportion by default. But you can "unlock" the width and height using the padlock icon to change the dimensions respectively.

Fine-tuning your image

Easily adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, and other aspects of your image using the “Finetune” tool. Simply select the option which you would like to adjust and use the slider at the bottom to apply the changes.

Adding arrows, shapes, or text to your image

Using the annotate function, you can easily add arrows, shapes, text, lines, or drawings to your image. Select your preferred tool at the bottom, set the color, adjust the width, and off you go!

Undo, redo, or reset all changes

If you'd like to undo or redo your most recent change, you can find arrows that allow this above the image. If you would like to revert back to the original image and remove all changes, there is a revert button in the top left corner.

By generating an image from a PDF file

You can also generate an image out of a PDF document in Shaman.

To do this, select “PDF” from the “Upload” button.

Select the PDF you wish to upload from your computer, and then select the page that you would like to use as an image. Shaman will then convert the page of the PDF document into an image for you, allowing you to either add the entire page or crop out a section that you would like to include in your email.
