What is MagicCopy and how can it help you?

It is often underestimated how difficult it can be to write engaging copy for approved email campaigns. And the stakes are high - the content of an email, especially the copy, is a fundamental part of whether or not the campaign will be a success.

This is where MagicCopy comes in.

MagicCopy is an AI copywriting assistant seamlessly integrated into the Shaman email editor. Using MagicCopy, you can rapidly boost the success of approved email content with your existing workflow process in Shaman, as well as avoiding the dreaded “writer's block” - without needing any copywriting skills.

The MagicCopy AI content generator creates email copy in 3 easy steps:

  • Step 1: Copy generator
    MagicCopy will ask you a short series of questions to find out what is the objective and key information to be communicated in your email content and what type of email you are creating. Based on your briefing, MagicCopy will then generate a first draft, in seconds!

  • Step 2: Copy optimizer
    Now for the review and optimization of the generated copy. Here you can finely tune and evaluate the copy generated by MagicCopy in the first draft, to perfectly fit the objective of your email content.
    If you aren´t happy with the draft generated, no problem! You can go back to the generate stage to refine your brief, or even “undo” the current optimization.

  • Step 3: Integrate
    Time to get creative! Integrate the generated MagicCopy content into an existing design template in Shaman, or you can add it to a blank email canvas in the HTML editor.

How to use MagicCopy in Shaman

In the Shaman email editor, select the corresponding email content tab to the content you are creating (eg. Email template or email fragment) and then click “New”.

A pop up will appear asking for key information about the email content to be completed:

  • Name: A free text field to add a relevant name for an email template or fragment

  • Brand: Choose from values available in the dropdown menu to select the corresponding Product associated with the email content.

  • Language: Choose from values available in the dropdown menu to select the language of the email content.

Click “Create” to be directed to the email overview section of the Shaman email editor. You can complete this information now, or after creating your email content.

From here click the "MagicCopy" tab.


Step 1: Copy generator

You will now be redirected to the MagicCopy AI content generator where you can see a short list of fields corresponding to what email content you are creating. All of these fields are obligatory and must be completed before generating the first draft.

We recommend you to be as accurate as possible in your answers to these questions to ensure an appropriate and fitting response from the MagicCopy generator.

  • Type of email - Choose the relevant option from the dropdown list of available email categories:

    • Webinar invite

    • Congress invite

    • Product update

    • Disease awareness

    • Patient information

    • Follow-up

Good to know!

This list of options can be customized per account, so please reach out to your dedicated customer success manager to adapt the list according to your needs.

  • What do you want to tell them? - Here you can describe the key message of the email: what do you want to communicate to your HCPs?

  • Why is it important? - Summarize in this field “what’s in it” for the HCPs (eg. the motive) that will receive this email.

  • Can you provide some more background information? - In this field you can include any additional information that will help the AI content generator refine the content created exactly to your needs.

  • What is the desired outcome? - Based on this information, MagicCopy will provide you with a relevant call-to-action. Choose from the drop-down list the option that best describes your objective:

    • Register for event

    • Download document

    • Read more

    • Read article

    • View video

    • Listen to podcast

This list of options can be customized per account, so please reach out to your dedicated customer success manager to adapt the list according to your needs.

  • What is the desired length? - You can select between 3 and 7 paragraphs of copy generated for your email.

Once you are happy with your answers, click on the “Generate copy” button.

MagicCopy will now generate a first draft text for you organized by paragraphs and a call-to-action in line with your desired outcome.


Step 2: Copy optimizer

After clicking “generate copy”, you will be directed to the “Copy optimizer" tab where you can review and further enhance the first draft that has been generated by MagicCopy.

In each paragraph generated, you can directly edit the text by simply clicking anywhere within the paragraph box. You will also see to the right a dropdown menu “Improve with AI”, where you have the possibility to:

  • Sync icon (rewrite paragraph): MagicCopy will generate a newly composed paragraph, different to the first draft.

  • Plus icon (expand paragraph): MagicCopy will generate a new paragraph adding additional copy, expanding the length and detail of the copy.

  • Minus icon (reduce paragraph: MagicCopy will generate a new paragraph with more concise copy, reducing the length of the paragraph

If you choose to rewrite, expand or reduce the paragraph, you will notice that afterwards an “Undo” button will appear next to the paragraph box. By clicking the “undo” button, you can revert back to the previous optimization.

Good to know!

If you aren´t happy with the draft generated, you can go back to the generate stage to refine your brief by clicking the “Change Brief” button. You will be directed back to the MagicCopy AI content generator, where you can edit the existing brief, or start from the beginning to complete the obligatory fields in the briefing stage.


Step 3: Integrate

Once you are happy with the generated copy, click the green “Add to email design” button below the optimized paragraphs.

You will now be directed to the HTML editor, but first the option to select a design template from the gallery of templates available will appear.

Good to know!

Only design templates which contain the “MagicCopy block” will be available to use. To find out more about how to add a MagicCopy block to an existing or new design template, take a look at this article.

Simply click a design template from the gallery to select it. Or alternatively you can click the “from scratch” button in the top right corner to add the copy to a blank email canvas.

You will be directed to the email editor and depending on the option you have chosen, you will be able to view the generated copy in your existing design template or blank email canvas.

Further considerations when using MagicCopy in Shaman

MagicCopy can be used for any language, keeping in mind the following:

  • MagicCopy can be used for any language. The suggested copy will be in line with the language used in the brief (as the system recognizes the input language), but the dropdown options will be in English.

  • If you can not see your chosen language in the list of dropdown options available, please get in touch with support@getshaman.com to have the language added to your account.

The Shaman MagicCopy AI content generator is best used as a writing assistant, speeding up the process and overcoming writer's block for generic, non-emotional content. It is not recommended to rely strictly on AI for your final versions of the email copy. Human editing is still required!

What content can I create using MagicCopy?

What kind of AI Content Generator is incorporated in MagicCopy?

We leverage OpenAIs API to provide MagicCopy

Is it an open AI? If yes, what happens with the data introduced in the brief? Are the data protected? Is there any risk?

We leverage the API of OpenAI to generate MagicCopy. OpenAI is a sub-processor of Shaman.

  • The data shared with OpenAI is limited to MagicCopy user input only (e.g subject line, briefing input, text paragraph for email), no information about the user or other data is transmitted.

  • Shaman will never share any PII or other user data with OpenAI.

  • OpenAI do not use data transmitted via API for training or improvement purposes.

    • Data sent through API may be retained on OpenAI servers for abuse and misuse monitoring for a maximum of 30 days, after which it will be deleted.

  • OpenAI API has end-to-end encryption, both for requests and responses.

  • OpenAI API is Soc 2 Type 2 compliant.

Is there any risk of plagiarism when using MagicCopy?

Plagiarism is a sensitive topic when using AI Content Generator for highly specialized topics. However, MagicCopy is recommended for more generic content, mainly for speeding up the process and overcoming writer's block.

AI generated content triggers Spam Filters?

In the past, spam filters would strictly analyze the content of your campaigns looking for specific signals (e.g. keywords) that determined whether they should send your emails to the inbox or not. However, these days, email providers have refined their methods, prioritizing user engagement, interactions with previous emails received from the same account. Also, you can always revise the final version of the copy, in case you identify any red flags. This practice is recommended in any case, whether you are using AI generated content or not.

Can MagicCopy align email body - subject line - preheader?

Currently, the alignment between email body - subject line - preheader should be managed by the content creator. However, including the email subject line and the preheader in the brief for MagicCopy will increase the chances to obtain relevant suggestions.

Can I use MagicCopy for spelling & grammar check? Can I change tone of voice?

For the moment, MagicCopy doesn’t include spelling & grammar check or tone of voice control, but we take these into consideration as future enhancements.

After getting several options based on the first draft, am I able to go back to the previous versions?

If you choose to rewrite, expand or reduce the paragraph, you will notice that afterwards an “Undo” button will appear next to the paragraph box. By clicking the “undo” button, you can revert back to the previous optimization. It is not possible to revert back to versions prior to the most recently created optimization.

After integrating the MagicCopy in the HTML editor, am I still able to use the AI Content Generator?

MagicCopy is a tool designed for preparing the copy before starting the HTML editing process, having in mind the main purpose of the email and the other elements (e.g. images). After integrating the copy in the email, user can no longer use MagicCopy in the same piece of content, but user can still implement changes on text.
