What is a “go back” link?
With a “go back” link you have extended options to manage a link with “go back” behavior. The idea is that the destination of the link is dynamic, rather than set to a specific slide. So depending on which slide you have navigated from, the destination slide will change according to the slide which you have navigated from.
You can copy and paste go back links and also use them in a link template.
There are three types of go back links which we will explore in more detail.
But first, let’s take a look at how to add a back link.
How to add a go back link:
Adding a go back link is easy. From the overview of your presentation, click the green edit icon on the slide where you want to add the back link.
Once you are viewing the slide, click “Add” and then “Back link” from the menu on the left hand side.
Draw a clickable area around a text or an image:
Click on the point on the slide where you want to add your link. Whilst continuing to click your mouse button, draw the clickable area of the link over your chosen text, image or other call to action. Once you are happy with the link, you can release your mouse button.
The link box will automatically turn green, as the destination slide will depend on the last state or slide viewed by the presenter.
You will, however, have a choice of three options if you click the green edit icon on your back link.
Go back to previous multistate
This is very useful for multistate pop-ups. The back link will take the presenter back to the last state in a multistate. A good example of using this back link would be a dismiss button on reference as multistate.
Good to know!
Back to last state is the default option when creating a go back link. In the case the back link is created outside of a multistate, the link will direct back to the last slide.
Go back to previous slide
This back link brings the presenter back to the previous slide in a presentation, rather than a slide in multistate. This option is useful if you are within a multistate with multiple states, but you wish to direct back to the last independent slide, rather than the last state viewed within a multistate.
Go back to previous regular slide (excl PDF, video)
This back link brings the presenter back to the previous regular slide in a presentation. This option is useful if the previous slides in your presentation are video or PDF documents, but you wish to direct back to the last regular slide. For example, a dismiss button on a reference page that has links to a PDF document or video.
