What settings can be defined in the body menu?

The body menu contains general style settings such as default text color and background color that can be defined and applied to your entire email template or fragment.

Top tip!

We would recommend you start your email design with these general settings to save you time and help maintain consistency in your email content.

How do you configure the settings in the body menu?

Let's imagine that you have created a new email fragment or template, the email details have been completed and you are now in the HTML editor ready to add elements to your email fragment or template. (If you need to revise any of these steps, you can take a look at this article here).

From the menu on the right-hand side, select the “Body” menu.

You will see the below settings which can be defined.

  • Text Color: Setting the default text color will automatically define the color of all text content in your email to your chosen shade. You can either choose your text color from a preselected color, from the color palette, or by entering a hexadecimal color code.

Good to know! Text color can still easily be changed at a later moment.

  • Background Color: In the same way as text color, you can define a background color as a default or automatic value for your email content. This setting refers to the color filled behind the main content area. The main content area usually has a width of 600-650px, therefore if the screen where the email is being viewed is larger than this dimension, the background color will be visible.

Good to know!

The main content area will scale for smaller screens such as a phone, in which case you will not see the background color.

We would recommend a light color to not draw attention away from the content area.

  • Content Width: As the name suggests, content width defines the width of the main content area of your email content. We would recommend you keep this between 600px - 700px as per the content considerations outlined in our full list of recommendations for email content here.

  • Content Alignment: You can choose a default alignment for your content eg. right aligned, to save you a little time changing the alignment for each piece of content.

Remember, you can always change the alignment of your content elements at a later time too.

  • Font Family: You can determine what family of fonts you wish to use in your email content as a default. This way, you won´t need to change the font each time you add new text to your email content.

  • Links: You can also define default properties for any hyperlinks you will create in your email. For example, you can decide the color, and whether the hyperlink is underlined. (We would highly recommend both to make sure the reader understands there is further information available through the text).
