How to add text to your email content

Let´s imagine that you have created a new email fragment or template, have completed the email details, and are now in the HTML editor ready to add elements to your email fragment or template. (If you need to revise any of these steps, check out this article here).

From the menus on the right-hand side, select the content menu. Find the text icon in the content menu, and simply drag and drop that icon onto your email canvas.

You will notice that a placeholder text box with the words, “This is a new Text block. Change the text.” has been added to the email canvas. To add your own text instead, simply start typing where you see the text already in the box.

You will notice when you do this that a toolbar appears with some standard options for formatting text.

  • Font - to change fonts, just click the arrow (to the right of the current font name) to view the other font options available to you.

  • Size - Increase or decrease the font size by clicking the arrow on the right side of the font size.

  • Styling options - Bold, Italic, Underline, or strikethrough. To use a styling option either highlight your text and click the styling option icon of your choice, or select the styling option icon first and start typing.

  • Superscript or subscript icons - if you are working with references in your email, you will probably want to use one of these options at some point. These icons work the same as styling options, either highlight the text and select a superscript or subscript icon, or select the icon you need and start typing.

  • Emoticon - If you click the emoticon icon, a pop-up window showing all emoticons available will appear. You can search for the emoticon of your choice using the search filter. Click the emoticon you wish to add to your email content to select it.

  • Hide formatting toolbar icon - if you wish to hide the text formatting toolbar, you can click this icon. To view the toolbar again, click the maximize text formatting icon that will appear (only when you have previously hidden the toolbar).

  • Alignment - select an alignment for your text: left, center, right, or full.

  • Standard bullet points - you can choose from three different styles of bullet points in the dropdown menu.

  • Numbered bullet points - you can choose from six different options for numbered bullet points by clicking on the dropdown menu arrow.

  • Text Color - Select from the color options available to change the color of your text. (Please note - in some accounts the color options are limited to maintain consistency when working with certain Products. If you have any doubts or questions about the options available to you, contact us at support@getshaman.com.

  • Background text color - Select from the color options available to change the background color of your text. (As per above, your color options may be limited based on the Product you are working on).

  • Hyperlink - Here you can add or remove hyperlinks to text by clicking the corresponding link icon (or broken link icon to remove the hyperlink).

  • Merge tags - you have probably heard of Veeva tokens for approved emails. This dropdown menu of merge tags offers you quick access to the most used Veeva tokens in your account.

Good to know!

You can still add Veeva tokens manually by typing them in a text box, but you might want to consider contacting us to add them to your merge tag list to save you some time in the future.

You also have some additional optional settings to further personalize text using the menu on the right-hand side.

  • Color - Select from the color options available to change the color of your text.

  • Text Align - select an alignment for your text: left, center, right, or full.

  • Line Height - Here you can set a specific line height for your text, which refers to the spacing between lines of text. You can increase or decrease this by using the minus and plus icons on either side of the numerical value. The percentage changes in multiples of 10 (eg. 120, 130, 140, etc) and is set as default at 130%.

  • Inherit Body Styles - if this toggle is enabled, the styles configured in the body menu will automatically be populated (you can take a look at this article to learn more about the body menu).

If this toggle is disabled, you will be able to manually update the defined settings for hyperlinks - both their color and whether they are underlined.

  • Container Padding - Padding can be used to perfectly position text within the body of your email content. You can choose to add the same padding to all sides by maintaining the “All sides” toggle enabled. Or, you can disable this toggle to manually configure the padding size for each side of the text block. You can use the plus and minus icons to increase or decrease the padding, or you can type a numerical value directly into the padding box.

  • Hide on Desktop - When this toggle is enabled, the text will not be displayed when viewing the email on a desktop computer or laptop, it will only be viewable on a mobile view.

Good to know!

We highly recommend you pay attention to how your email content looks on both mobile and desktop views. To learn more great tips when creating email content compatible with mobile and desktop views, take a look at this article here.

Deleting or duplicating a text block

To delete a text block, simply click anywhere within the text block to select it. You will then notice two icons - a bin icon to delete the text block, and a copy icon to duplicate it.

Depending on which you wish to do, simply click the icon, and your text block will either be deleted or duplicated.
